ACCIONA: Bringing Advanced Concrete to DigiFab’s Revolution

DigiFab is reshaping renovation through digitalization and adaptable prefabrication technologies. ACCIONA contributes by developing innovative low-carbon, lightweight concrete mixes designed for next-generation prefabricated components. Combined with DigiFab’s digital workflow, these materials help enable faster, safer, and more sustainable renovation processes across the construction sector.

DigiFab is transforming renovation through digital workflows and adaptable prefabrication technologies. To enable this shift, the project needs smarter, more sustainable building materials, and ACCIONA delivers exactly that. Through its Construction Technology Centre, ACCIONA brings years of research expertise into developing next-generation concrete solutions tailored for digital renovation.

A new sustainable Concrete for digital Prefabrication

ACCIONA’s main contribution to DigiFab centres on developing sustainable and lightweight concrete mixes that integrate recycled content and low-carbon materials. These new formulations are tailored to meet the requirements of next-generation prefabricated components—designed to work seamlessly with DigiFab’s digital renovation workflows.

To bring these materials to life, ACCIONA works closely with PREHORQUISA, who will produce the prefabricated panels using the innovative mixes. ACCIONA also leads Work Package 5, “Prototyping of Prefabricated Technologies”, ensuring that digital designs evolve into real, scalable solutions for the market.

Why DigiFab is unique: a fully Digital Renovation Chain

What excites ACCIONA most about DigiFab is its technological ambition. By digitizing every step—from initial design through to installation—DigiFab streamlines the traditionally slow, fragmented renovation process. This integration makes renovation faster, cheaper, and far more adaptable, addressing one of Europe’s biggest challenges: upgrading existing buildings efficiently.

Transforming the Construction Sector

The technologies and materials developed in DigiFab are expected to bring major benefits for the industry:

  • Reduced costs due to streamlined digital workflows

  • Shorter project timelines thanks to prefabrication

  • Less construction waste

  • Safer working conditions

  • Improved comfort and satisfaction for building occupants

DigiFab, strengthened by ACCIONA’s material innovation, represents a significant leap toward a more digital, sustainable, and resilient construction sector.

"By streamlining renovation through digital workflows and prefabricated modules, the DigiFab solution significantly improves worker safety—reducing time on site, minimizing exposure to hazardous conditions, and enabling more controlled installation environments”
